Taking up the practice of yoga over six and a half years ago was a wise decision for my mind and my body. That my teacher happened to be Sharon Guntharp was fortuitous. Now, I can’t imagine taking a yoga class with anyone else!
I began practicing yoga at a difficult time in my life. My husband’s health was failing with Parkinson’s and he was already in a nursing home. Through yoga, I learned to relax, concentrate on my body and on my breath and, as a result, I was able to face my situation with equanimity. My sleeping improved, as well, having learned relaxation techniques to get through restless periods at night.
I am "of a certain age" (yes, over 65!) but I feel that I move with agility and energy of someone much younger than I and I attribute that to Sharon and her teachings. My muscles are strong and limber and my balance is good. Sharon speaks with a very soothing voice as she guides us through our positions (asanas). She also has a lovely singing voice which we hear occasionally when she sings along with the CD that’s playing during our rest period at the end of the session.
I always mention to people my continued practice of yoga, especially when people tell me that I seem a lot younger than I really am. I have Sharon to thank for that!
